tensioner?
I dont see any loose pulleys, and the noise isnt affecting oil press, coolant temp, battery voltage (that i can tell, no gauge...) and theres no detectable noise from any one pulley when i move them. But when I start the car the tensioner does hop. Could it be the tensioner that is making all the racket?

Chuck...honestly ...we need more information to go on.
At the moment..I'm pretty sure it's the THINGEEEEEEE. ;) Meanwhile put it up in the air and kick the catalytic...any rattling? |

You might want to try idling with no belts on the car for a minute or two to narrow things down. Start with a cold car, and don't do it for more than 2 minutes at most. You'll have no water pump. But this step can go a long way towards troubleshooting.
Look VERY carefully at the face of the harmonic balancer. Is the rubber face starting to seperate from the outer ring where the belts ride? If you tug on a belt, does the HB move? Does the sound go away as you rev the engine speed up? |
I had a similar problem w/ my pulleys. I used wd-40 as the search tool. I gave a shot to each idler pulley until the ear bleeding squealing went away. And I don't know, but for some reason, I seem to have to replace the supercharger pulley's (all 3) more than anything. About every 6 mo or so.

got it fixed
Got it figured out, It was the harmonic balancer. The noise is gone. Now I have an intermittent acceleration problem. when i hit the gas it starts to studder, or act like it was skipping. I cant tell if its fuel or ignition, im hoping its the distribution block because Its and easy fix but any idea please let me know. :idea:

What's a distribution block?
Does it stutter in overdrive at 55 if you gently roll on the throttle? 95% of these problems are ignition related. Most commonly a plug, wire, or coil. Very rarely will this type of symptom be a fueling issue. Let's start with a better description of your problem and the age of the ignition components in your car (you really need to be alot more descriptive in your posts). |
I mean the coil pack, thats what i think it is. The plugs are new and the wires are good..
