Default Missfire problem solved :D

a little more than a week ago i had noticed a misfire when ever i got near the boost line or when going up hills. i figured it could have been a few things.

1. I had just gotten new wheel hub assemblies and the sensors were really sensitive because of their newness. (when i was leaving the dealership i hit the brakes to slow down and my ABS kicked in.)It did not take long to dismiss this issue.
2. I had just disconnected my battery to put in an extension post for the battery so i could hook up my amplifier power line. From what i understand, every time you disconnect the battery, the computer (whatever the name is? ECM PIM PMS(not gonna go there)) resets itself and starts from scratch. Which could cause it to run rough. Once again. after a day i dismisses this problem as well.
3. Bad gas. This was what i thought was the problem. I purchased some ISO-HEET and threw it in with a full tank. after a half tank i still had the misfire. So much for that. :(

I asked my friend and he suggested 3 more things. a dirty fuel filter, a dieing fuel pump and bad wires and plugs. I decided to go for the least expensive options first. The fuel filter, and the plugs with wires. So off to the Bonneville club!

I have never come here and left without the answers to ALL of my questions. And this was no different. Reading the forums I read that the suggested plugs were NGK TR55 and beldun blue wires. i went ahead and got whatever the fuel filter NAPA recommended.

The fuel filter was first but never got changed. the old one is horribly rusted on and i can't get the bugger off. this will be saved for summer time. So i replaced the plugs and wires. having never done it before i was a bit afraid but when all was said and done my car started up! i was so proud. Gotta love that male pride stuff. I took my car for a short ride and the problem was gone! W00T!

I wanted to see what the problem was so i test the resistance of all the wires and found the shortest one (don't remember what number it was) had infinite resistance! the spark plug wasn't firing! how could my car be running on 5 cylinders and the check engine light not come on?! ROFL. Oh well at least it'* fixed I'll try to upload pictures when i figure out how to do it.

In short i would like to DEEPLY thank all of you for all the help past, present, and with no doubt future problems!

Cheers!
Robin *.

Welcome to the Forum, Robin!

That'* the #1 wire. As you face the engine, left to right on the front is 1, 3, 5. Left to right on the rear as you face it is 2, 4, 6.

Plugs and wires are a 'fix' more often than you might imagine. Usually felt under light load (a hill) in overdrive. Glad you got it done!

Thanks for the welcome willwren!

I have always tried to do any work myself. I couldn't do the hub assemblies so the dealership had to do it.I love my car and will do everything i can to keep her (yes it'* a her, She'* my mistress!) in good condition. I'm not a gear head but I'm not afraid to learn either.

So far I've
Changed the EGR valve
changed the belts(2 weeks ago.)
spark plugs and wires. (Today 12-15-06)
brake pads(morse ceramic) and rotors(brembo)
headlamps and headlamp assembly
cleaned and repainted some rust bubbling through the paint around the sunroof
Replaced a leaky transmission hose going into the radiator
Put in a 180 degree Tstat (I had sears do a flush because i was afraid and the temperature skyrocketed to 270.after a day it went down. It never went past 200 degrees before, now it hits 225. The dealership i went to told me that was a normal temperature. i crapped myself when i found the stock was a 195 degree Tstat.)

I worked to get her and I'll work to keep her. Long live the Bonnie!

I couldn't tell from that last post but are you saying the temp is STILL getting that high? It sounds like maybe some air is trapped in the system causing unusually high temps. These engines are tricky to fill with coolant without trapping air.

when i got home i was told by my father (who is a mechanic) that it could have air in the system. He told me to open the little valve above where the Tstat is until all the air is out. well after a day the temp went down to 225 at the highest. But it still alarmed me, the car never use to go above 200. but the dealership told me it was a normal temp so i accepted it. whoever filled it last time i assume used some water wetter or something.

Now on the highway the temp is at 180 and idling it goes up to 225.

ahh you might want to check your water pump, my moms bonnevilles water pump froze and caused the belt to get caught around everything, sorta looks like what was happening to your belt.
