Which pulley/idler is this? (Picture included)

And how in god'* name does it come off? As you can (kind of) see from the picture, there'* a piece that goes past the narrow part that extends through the pulley and comes out almost into a little mushroom shape... about 1CM away from the motor mount
I've already gotten two people (Napa and a technician friend of mine) who suggested that i'll probably just have to jack the engine up and pull the motor mount to get to it.
I have the tools to do this (3 1/2 ton jack, tons of extra plywood laying around), but where should I position the jack or the wood itself on the jack? Should I grab a big piece and put it all the way across the oilpan or something? Somebody help me out when you get a chance, because I don't have a clue. Thanks in advance

I am assuming you are talking about the one it the pich that looks a little messed up. That one is an idler pulley I think. I assume that is from your 96 SSEi so that would be a series 2 so I can't compare to mine. But idler is my thought.

That'* what I was thinking, Wikoff, but how can I jack two different things up with only one jack? I'm a bit confused...

The engine and the tranny are bolted together, so support them both to reduce pressure on the oil pan. Put the jack so it is approximatly between the two, but not so the wood will buckle, so moreso under the oilpan than the tranny. If the wood cracked and the jack wasn't at least part way directly under one of them, it would be bad.

Okie, i'm about ready to do it, but there'* one little problem : The wood on the jack won't fit under the oil pan/tranny pan so I put jackstands under both sides of the front of the car. Will this cause a problem if I just raise the engine a little bit?

i think that might be your tensioner pulley if i remember right :? cause i think the series 2 have the tensioner pulley way down below like yours...
if so you could get the oversized tensioner pulley from zzp to take up the extra belt slack, just a thought
