I'm leaking oil and it'* not a slow drip. All the oil doesn't drip out, but there'* enough left to get at the most 40 psi when I'm driving, every time I turn a corner or stop it drops to the red line and then I hear that ding ding ding, which is really irritating. I though it was my oil filter, I seen a drip of oil coming from the top of the filter, so I changed it. I don't know if this worked yet, but I will see tomorrow.

I didn't see any drips from the oil pan where the gasket is, but I did see sludge and it was kind of wet. Can anyone point me into a good direction? How long does it take for a oil pressure sending unit to go completely out?

check your head gasket for leaks.. just hope it is'nt going into your coolant.. is your coolant in the radiator still neon green..

Generally, a bad sending unit would usually cause the gauge to max out, not go into the red. Leaky gaskets won't cause low oil pressure either. How much oil is there when you check it on the dipstick?

I had the same problem about the ding ding of the guage, but it was when I came to a stop light, it would drop into the red, I changed the sending unit and it worked find, no more ding ding.

I haven't checked the dipstick, I just know there was oil in there when I changed the oil filter. Back when the oil was contained in the car my oil gauge would max out and Will told me that it could be my sending unit going out. My coolant is still green. I checked my oil about 2 weeks ago and it was dry, my car was ticking also, so I added 2 quarts of oil, which the car is still holding. then about a week after that I added 2 more quarts, which leaked out in a matter of days. But the car has been holding about 2 quarts and having leaked out. I hate when I stop on the side of a car and hear my lifters ticking. :(

As a person that dislikes having to change engines for something that could have been avoided, it needs to be said. STOP RUNNING IT WITH LOW OIL. If you know your oil is low..then go broke filling it if you must. Running it low and hearing that annoying ding means you are causing harm to the engine.

The car is begging for mercy and you need to take action quickly or it will be costly. Get 2 cans of degreaser and clean that motor from the top and bottom. Don't be shy..get a couple old socks and rub it down to get it clean. At the rate you are losing oil..it shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes of driving to see where the leak is once the motor is clean. Then fix it up.

If the oil level is low and the pressure is dipping low, that means the pressure is low because there is no oil to pump and create pressure. This does not mean it is or is not a sending unit....however..you can't create oil pressure without oil.

Now go git'r done.

Go out right now and check your dipstick.

Find out where the leak is coming from and fix it before you drive the car again. You'll lose the motor if you don't. It'* already been ticking at you. That'* not a GOOD THING.

Park the car and fix it. This is not a minor issue. It'* a very serious matter.

The issue is NOT your sending unit. Forget that. The issue is also NOT your head gaskets, so don't even consider it. Clean the engine as well as you can, then start it and look for the source of the leak. Report it back here, but do NOT drive the car any more.

If you're getting to the Ding Ding Ding point, you're oil isn't low. It'* GONE!! I just changed my oil last night. Good pressure, no warnings, and I only got maybe 3 quarts out of her (y'all can flame me in a new thread for my poor maintenance)

Please, if you can't stop driving here, carry a case of cheap WallyWorld oil with you to keep her topped off until you can get it fixed up. Go check the oil NOW please, and check it daily until you can take the Bills advice and find the leak...
