wheel hub replacement

ok im trying to replace the front wheel hubs on my 1998 bonneville. The original one i took off does not look like the one i bought, it has the gear on it for the wheel speed sensor and the new one does not. It has a plug for the wss but no gear, also it doesnt not fit into the original opening.

Sounds like you have the wrong hub.

What is the manufacturere and part number of the hub you purchased?

You likely have the correct hub. The old one likely left it's sensor cover in the knuckle on the car. This is very common in my area, because the knuckle corrodes/rusts a bit and holds it. When you pull the old one out, it's common to have to pull the rear piece of the housing out seperately.

Take a look in the knuckle and pull out the metal shield piece stuck in the hole where the bearing goes. Insert the new one, tighten it down and enjoy. :thumbup2

Did not think of that Bill.

I think you are right Bill. He mentioned seeing the gear for the WSS on the old one, and you won't see that unless the cover came off.

Good catch.

I tend to have a knack of remembering what hung me up when I saw these things the first time around. :w3
