tranny problems...its an ignition problem...FIXED w/pics
Well it start out that it would only happen in OD accelerating slowing from like 52+ the car would start to buck. That is the best way I have found to describe it.
Starting yesterday, upon a easy start but through the upper RPMs of first it felt like the tranny was slipping. (at which point the check engine light came on) Now, I realize that might be wrong. Reasons, I have noticed a power loss, which leads me to think that the hesitation and "slipping" is actually a misfire or similar.
the car also feels "jumpy" as my mom describes it, when sitting at a red light.
idk what to do...I don't know if its possible to pull codes since its OBD!! (w/o a scan tool)
its going in monday but it will have 200+ miles on it before then.

Go to autozone/advance and get the codes pulled, be sure to look at the codes on the reader write them down and post the codes. There are a few trans codes that could set the SES

Hmmmm...
I agree take the car to autozone and have it scanned for free...
I'm thinking that you will need plugs and wires.. You are describing an intermintent missfire...
If I remember right the PCM will set a code 1740 if the tranny is slipping... Don't quote on that code, going off the top of my head here..
But I think that they will possibly find one of these codes..
P0300 Random multiple missfire
P0301 Cylinder 1 missfire
P0302 Cylinder 2 missfire
P0303 Cylinder 3 missfire
P0304 Cylinder 4 missfire
P0305 Cylinder 5 missfire
P0306 Cylinder 6 missfire
My 95 is a bit interesting, the last time I had an intermintent miss I could sit there with the scantool in my hand and the tool would display the cylinder missfire when it happened... I think I had a Cylinder 4 miss... That plug wire was toast too...lol
Autozone will most likely only be able to read the code and most likely not look into the actuall operating perameters.. But hey its free...
Good Luck and let us know what you find..

Oh yeah, I'll chime in here. I developed a really heavy buck / banging climbing hills at 40+ mph in o/d and torque converter lockup. I was dead nuts convinced it was the transmission. I replaced the trans with a 30k mile unit for $400. The bucking still existed. I found out that I had installed new spark plug wires and plugs, coincidentally right around the time the bucking started. The plugs were bosch platinums (yuck!) AND i had not clipped the front 3 wires into the retainers properly. #1 plug wire was 100% directly touching the exhaust manifold, and it had a big discoloration and a soft spot on the silicone outer jacket. Replaced the plugs w/ autolites and wires, zero problems.
Oh well, I have a trans w/ less than half the miles the car has on it now, so that should last a while. I was throwing no check engine lights or stored codes either, by the way.

97 Le Sabre, I had the same issues with my 95 bonnie in 98... It was a he** bent missfire... Sometimes it would stumble, and miss buck and kick... It was a bad plug wire causing the problem... I too thought the trans was at fault... I also threw no codes...
Took it to a good dealership, and the guy told me what it was right off the bat... He had said that the plugs and wires would need to be replaced... I guess the 3800'* were bad about that... He scantooled it and said there were no codes, but there was a detected missfire... I had them do the first tuneup... I have done them everseince... I have had that issue crop up 2 more times... I finally wrapped the wires in wire loom so they wouldn't ground out later...
Advice for you guys, when you replace the sparkplugs and wires, wrap the wires with wire loom where there may be a potential for the wire to rub on the fuel rail, the intake ans or the cover... I have found several wires damaged from rubbing on top of the fuel rail/Engine... I have had no further problems...
And yes I too used the bosch, and they turned into a headache... Even the local dealership and the one 20 miles from here both said, Do Not Use Bosch Plugs in a 3800...lol Good Luck

I fixed the problem!!!! YAY!!! I'm really proud of myself, I never realized how easy it would be to actually change spark plugs on a car. This was my first time and all. My dad hung around to "help" but w/e I made him the tool fetcher.
He actually debated my stating that the problem was probably the spark plug wires...I'm glad I proved him wrong Although he actually wants to get new wires in there, or atleast that was his mood tonight so that is a definate plus.
pictures of me doing the rear plugs...
I think these are the first pictures of me and some of the exterior of the Bonneville posted here on Bonneville club. I know I had some trunk pictures up.
EDIT: anyone know how to reset the check engine light w/o risking losing radio presets??
