well we put the car back together...runs more or less like a champ now..heres the thing

you start the car it fires and jumps to 1500 or so like it should, then it emits this squealing/screaming noise...sounds like a small child trapped inside the engine or something... it does it for maybe a second or two and then stops....it will start to do it again if you rev the car up close to 3 grand....and it also does it one final time AFTER the car is shut off and AFTER everything stops turning....what on earth could this be? my dad thinks it might be a bearing or something that got exposed to some coolant a little too long.....

EDIT: dad just came in and says that it doesnt do it anymore after the car is shut off..any thoughts?

another weird thing is that my airbox makes a giant upheaval after the car is shut off, it never did this before, but now its got a cleaner throttle body and probably a better flowing intake manifold, cause they were soemwhat clogged....is this just because my airbox is gutted? after i shut the car off it used to squeal and exhale...it was quite a sight to behold

I'm thinking the same thing...a pulley got some coolant on it and it was causing the squealing. Sometimes a belt that'* too tight will cause a squel too. Since we have a tensioner that'* likely not the issue, but check the belt tension just to be sure. It should only have 1/16" of play up an done from the "home" position in a run of the belt.

As for the "upheaval" noise...I experience that same noise in my car everytime I turn it off. Has done it since day one...an odd noise, yes...never caused any issues though!!

Congrats on a job well done!

Almost sounds like it'* backfiring out the intake...are you positive the plug wires are correct?

It shouldn't be exhaling out of the intake. But I'm no expert. Expecially on the screaming child.

well we originally thought it was a belt too, because it did it for quite a while when we first started the car...but its not coming from the belts or any pullies in that region it all, it seems to be coming more from the driver side of the car and the engine itself....im going to go change the oil, as i have yet to do that....ill be back in later, im going to drain the coolant as well, my dad thought the flush to be a bad idea, and im somewhat agreeing, there really isnt a straight part in the hose to attach the fitting too, but ill see what i can do.

ok we have a new breakthrough in the situation....two of my dads friends stopped by after he had left to go help my mom with something...i had just finished changing the oil and i decided to show them what it was doing, since theyre somewhat car savvy....

one guy grabbed the oil filler and pulled it off....but not without a fight, it has a large amount of suction pulling on it....and i know its not supposed to do that...so theres a place to start...the guy kept asking where the crankcase ventilation was..and all i knew to tell him was the PCV valve, which the new intake came with a new valve and o-ring and thats what we used....

so we have determined that the sound is made by air flowing past or through something...possibly a gasket...and that my friends is bad juju.... any thoughts?

i failed to mention that the sound immediately stops when you remove the oil cap...the engine falls on its face and then starts running rough...but the stop stops immediately..

well dad came home and said the throttle body vacuum wiring was correct, i couldnt remember how it went and im not the one who took it off, and i couldnt find anything in the manual...so thats not the culprit...

dad says the sound seems to be coming from down lower on the back of the engine...almost in the lower intake area? that makes me cringe...dads out making sure all the plugs are tight right now...

but basically i think the sound is air being pushed through a tiny hole at extreme pressure....it also gets higher with the revs and lower yada yada....it also more or less quit after it ran awhile...it just got really quiet...and then if you turned if off and then turned it back on the whole shebang would start over again...its the weirdest thing ive ever heard from an engine..

You have a PCV valve problem.
Make sure you have the black o-ring around the PCV valve.

the new intake came with a whole new pcv valve with the o-ring already installed....we put that in there and hooked up all the connections....it seems to be making a tight seal as well...

IT LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well it was in fact a PCV problem....as it turns out, me and my dad are dumasses we somehow neglected to put the little metal canister, with the nipple on it and little rattles? in it...whatever that thing is, inside the PCV assembly....so yeah, it didnt quite work right, but it does now...runs like a champ! im happy, i got my baby back!

BUT! it does still have a check engine light, im thinkin either it hasnt cleared the codes from the original incident...or the fact i ripped my MAP sensor in half while we were messing with the PCV valve....the MAP sensor does sit on top of the PCV assembly correct? whatever that sensor is...it still seals the whole, but its Fed up...so i think we need a new one of them things that would definetely throw a code wouldnt it?

Glad to hear it was only a pcv. The maf should be sitting on the throttle body, not the pcv. Last thing I want to do is gvie you any bad information.

The maf is a rectangular sensor on the front (grill) side of the throttle body. Right near the accordian air intake tube.

Yes, the MAP (MAP Bill, not MAF) sensor sits on top of the PCV valve (the "little metal thingy" you asked about), and yes, a bad MAP sensor will throw a code...
