Default Oxygen Sensor Stripped! HELP!!!

Anyone know the thread size of an oxygen sensor?

Decided to change the oxygen sensor for poor gas mileage, and the sensor came out with no threads!

Now I got to tap out the exhaust manifold threads before I install the new sensor.

Thanks for any help.

Geez that does suck! But I believe you can put in a Heli-Coil to be able to put in a new O2 sensor. Sorry I don't know the thread size but I'm sure one of the Gearheads might know. Good Luck.

I don't think that it'* a standard thread size.....but I could be wrong.

I tried without success to find a bolt to plug my connection when I installed the spoof....so I had to plug it with the old disconnected O2 sensor.

If you other gearheads know, please post the thread size.

I think they're 19 x 1.5mil can anyone back me up?

Chase it with a tap first. If that doesnt work then go to helicoil.

well if your gonna use heli coil, which i would also highly suggest, your gonna have to tap it out larger to compensate for the thickness of the heli coil, so that the 02 sensor will still fit. I think you will have to tap it out 1 size larger than it should be, put the heli coil in, then the 02 sensor. Also another good idea might be some never seize on the threads of the 02 sensor if it doesnt already come with it. It is suggested and will be a lot easier removing it next time around if you have to. ...just my 2 cents...

I've read that oxygen sensors use a specializedl anti-seize compound made up of powdered graphite and small glass beads; the graphite burns away, and the beads remain.. The heat of the exhaust manifold would probably destroy a generic anti-seize compound in short order.

Yup, my AC Delco had a note in the package about the glass beads/graphic compound that is already on the threads when you purchase it.
