That would be an SE more than likely.

Have any pictures of it?

i agree with bonnienoclyde, all the SEs ive seen aren't marked w/ badges other than pontiac and bonneville, and it probably has a NA Series I 3800? but someone else can confirm that

look on your spare tire cover, there should be a white label. look for the codes H4U, that would make you a SLE in the 1993 Model year. IF you dont have that then your a SE

If your front foglights are directly below your headlamps, and you've got single red reflectors on the rear bumper, you've got an SE or an LE. If your front foglights are up on either side of your front license plate, and your rear bumper reflectors are little sets of three each, you've got an SSE or an SSEi.

Then either your car has had the front bumper replaced, or the badges added. The VIN will tell you exactly what one it is.

the 4th and 5th digits.

HX Pontiac Bonneville SE
HY Pontiac Bonneville SSE
HZ Pontiac Bonneville SSEi

Actually, if I remember right, the bumpers on the SE/LE are not interchangeable with those of the SSE/SSEi unless the grille is changed as well, because the SE/LE has a lower top surface across the middle, meeting with a deeper grille. The SSE/SSEi has a shallower grille and a higher center bumper across the middle, made necessary because of the foglamp assemblies in the middle.

However, I think the fenders and hood are the same for all '93s, so you could conceivably do a bolt-on swap. If the VIN identifies it as an SSE but it'* got an SE/LE front end on it, any chance that somebody in the past did a budget rebuild on it after an accident? (Even before your buddy'* dad got it?) Photos might be interesting here.

Also, which rear bumper and taillights does your HY code car have? It should have the SSE/SSEi bumper with triple-lens reflectors on either side of the license plate, and smoked taillights, not bright red/amber/clear ones.
