Need FSM diagram for 97 fuel sending unit
I'm looking for a wiring diagram that shows the resistance output for the fuel sending unit in a 97 SSEi. I haven't received my manuals from Helm yet. It can be emailed to randman1 at verizon dot net.
If a scan is not possible, I can get by with a text description such as 0 ohms empty, 90 ohms full.

Hey Randman, your '97sender reads 40 ohms empty and 250 ohms when full....just went thru this on our '96, gauge was always pegged on full, found out someone had replaced the sending unit with a newer one and did not realize it had the old style gauge in it that still read 90 ohms full....btw I have a brand new sender for a '97 Bonne if you need it.

Damn. I've has three different clusters in my 93 so far and each one of them have their different problems. I installed the one from my 97 donor and everything worked great... until i went to full up. I pulled out of the gas station and the gauge read less than 1/4 tank. I had to check the receipt to see how many gallons it took. 9 point something went in.
Geeze. This is gonna be a big problem when the tank and sending unit go into my 90.

Sounds like your gauge works on the 40/250 principle and your sender is 0/90, that would explain why you only showed less that 1/4 tank after you put 9 gallons in it, at half a tank or around there your sender will show prob about 45-50 ohms which would be half or more with a 90 ohm gauge, but 45-50 ohms will show up as barely over empty om the 40/250 ohm gauge....damn, about confused myself on that one....hope it'* clear enough.
As far as the changeover on senders and gauges it happened sometime in the '96 model year, not even GM was able to tell me exactly when they switched, our '96 was built May of '96 and still has the 0/90 ohm setup.

Actually, when I was driving it for the first time after the cluster swap, the low fuel light came on. I intended on filling the tank and let the pump shut itself off. That means that the tank is full but displaying less than 1/4 tank. Maybe I'm mistaken and it'* more like 1/3 full. That makes more sense.

Best I can tell is starting in '97 all GM cars went to the 40/250 ohm setup, I know for sure Buick, Olds and Pontiac did, also from the research I've done (Along with the friendly help of local GM dealer) the 3 letter codes on your sending units are there to determine what connector you have on the actual fuel level sensor (which can be changed), we checked 6 senders they had in stock and all had different plugs but same resistor plate and float....now mind you theses were '97 and later applications, the sender for the 0/90 ohm setup is way different.
