Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later..

I now know the check engine light works. Just came on, wasn't doing anything exciting.
Cenex wants $50, local mech wants $20. Walmart sell a 2 reader/resetter for $100. Or wait till tomorrow.
Car seems to run fine.

JimmyFloyd 06-10-2005 07:21 PM

to read the code? If so, find an autozone and they should read it for free.

X2

and if its the 92 then you can scan the codes yourself

sonoma_zr2 06-10-2005 07:35 PM

97. Autozone, what's that? We live in the sticks. There isn't an Autozone around here for 90 miles. The light went out now. Will the code still be in there tomorrow?

LakevilleSSEi 06-10-2005 07:53 PM

Can try pulling the batterry cable off for a lil bit and reconnect it and see if the code comes back. Coulda just been a fluke....

corvettecrazy 06-11-2005 12:06 AM

any symptoms or stumbling?

find an autozone or pepboys or something similar...they will likely scan for free.

BonneMeMN 06-11-2005 01:25 AM

If you're bring it to MAG tomorrow, we can scan it there.

If its the 97 the code will probably still be stored in there, so it would still be good to get it cleared.

banned3800 06-11-2005 11:04 AM

for any year of bonneville, if these is a code it will be stored in the ECM / PCM even if the SES light goes out...

Most autoparts stores like Autozone, Advance and the like will read the codes for free.... Some can scan the car others can't...

But make sure you know what the code is before you have the code/s erased...

Good Luck ;)

Got the code, well sort of. Forgot it. Gordy has to email the scan readout. Fun time at MAG

P0336 sounds familiar, but could the crank pos sensor throw an error but still work?

Confirmed, P0336

Glanced at the service manual, it says, if the ICM/PCM is still getting a 3x's reference pulse and a Cam pulse the Car will still start and run...

According to this code you have no 18x's reference pulse..

Looks like it could be a bad crank sensor, bad connection at the crank sensor, ICM or PCM.. Not 100% about the possibility of a bad ICM or PCM...

Also says that when this code is set the PCM will command the Traction controll off, and I thik it said that the TC light will illuminate...

I can scan a page or 2 for you if needed...

Good Luck ;)

Anyone know how much it is to replace the sensor?

that would be much appreciated, thanks.

Car has always started fine, hasn't missed once. Before or after the code.
Stopping by my mech's place this afternoon, will ask him what I should do.

Is what you said earlier that the car will start and run with a bad crank sensor? As long as it sees a cam signal and what else? (3x- what's that) Anyway, it does seem to point to crank, right?

sonoma_zr2 06-13-2005 06:16 PM

Mech wants a c-note installed for the crank senson.

Local parts store wants 35 for the sensor and 40 for the hb puller.

I'll have to see of one of the MN guys has a puller I can borrow. Maybe we can get together for another mini-meet. Don't have one scheduled till BFest. (that's along time for us MN guys)

BonneMeMN 06-14-2005 12:39 AM

SSEi95 has one rented.

Autozone will give u one on deposit, and refund it all. Checker in lakeville does this for 4 days, then it's urs.

LakevilleSSEi 06-14-2005 12:45 AM

If anything I might be able to get that puller at Lakeville Checker for free. I got a few connections (and my own commerical account) there lol.

Yes the car will start with the bad crank sensor. If it runs rough then stalls on you, turn the key off, and one out of 6 times the timing will line up right and you'll be able to continue on your journey home.

sonoma_zr2 06-14-2005 10:07 AM

hasn't stalled or failed to start yet.
