Default Evap canister

On my Evap canister the rubber connects are falling apart and flaking off into tiny peaces when i tried to relocate it make room for a FWI.... Now I have 2 questions....

1) Can i just remove the canister and put a T in its place? will it throw any codes?

2) If i cant do number 1... What part would I ask for if i goto the auto store? because am not sure what it would be called.... Thanks Nick

I didn't see what year/model you have, but on my '92 SSE */c and '93 SSEi, a quad driver error code will be set for a evaporator canister purge solenoid malfunction. I think the error will occur if the solenoid'* coil is either shorted or open. And here in Ca., I doubt that a car will pass a smog test if the canister isn't present and operational.
My suggestion would be to leave the canister in-place and replace the vacuum lines. The lines are standard rubber vacuum lines and fittings available at any parts store.

You could use a piece of hose to u bend, or get some hose and simply replace and keep the emissions canister.

Get new hose, relocate the canister, and hook it up.

You'll probably have to go to the isle that has the "Help" odds and ends parts to find the vac hose connectors, otherwise use common rubber hose to connect the charcol can back up.

I tend to leave them in, even on a performance oriented car, because removing it does nothing for you. It'* another one of those emmissions parts that operates at idle, infrequently at that, and has no bearing on the power output of the motor. It also serves a useful function of pulling the vapors off the gas tank. It may be a smog part, but it'* one that does no harm to the cars performance.
