Default Not so good noise...

I have this noise that is really starting to bother me. It sounds like some metal on metal clanging or mild grinding. It only happens under certain circumstances, such as heavy acceleration from a stop or slow speed and shifting from 1st to 2nd under open throttle. It doesn't show itself at highway speeds of slow acceleration. It is less likely to happen if the engine is cold and it its cooler out. This morning on the way to work it was 72F and a cold engine and it didn't make the noise. I tried. On a day where it'* 92F and a warm engine it is almost definate that it will make it.

I had it to the shop a while ago and had the CV joints and everything else in that area checked out but they said it was all fine. :? They did point out however, that the muffler was hitting the exhaust tips when it shook. I already had 1 tip that had broken off so I pulled the other and this seemed to help but it is still there.

Could this be an exhaust issue with loose heat shields and such or (hopefully not) is this more of a valvetrain sort of thing? The noise is starting to PMO so any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to mention,

The tranny was rebuilt aboout a year ago. I had that checked out first by one of my buddies friends and he said the tranny was running just fine. He thought it could have been tire rub (I do have 10 1/2" wide tires) but I was unable to find any rub marks.

Engine mounts can cause this look at the metal band on your axle and look at the bar underneath it. If the engine mounts are bad it will cause the axle to hit just a bit on the raised pinched part of the metal strap holding the inner boot on. I know because mine is do for some new mounts LOL.

Do you access to a hoist? If so get under it & check the entire exhaust system heat shields! Like Ty said, you can also check for rubbing while you're there too!

Hey, thanks for the tips. I pit my car up on some jacks stands and took a look at the exhaust. I didn't see anywhere where it was hitting or anything loose around it. I had by buddie rev the engine to see if could hear anything but notta.

I also checked out the front axles but there wasn't a mark on them or anything in the surrounding area.

It'* kinda weird how sometimes it will make a horendous noise and then the next time it won't make a peep. :?

I think I will just bring it back to a differnt shop to see if they can find something that I missed. :?

Default about ur sound

does it come from under the hood or under the car. Listen for the sound under your hood in the area of the timing belt. If its coming from there u might have the same problem i got (a loose clamp in the compressor) i havent yet gotten to fixin it since theres a 50/50 chance its gonna help.
