Default What Tires are good for Highway Use

Hey Guys and Gals,

I am about to get some new Tires for my 97 SSEi Bonneville and I was after some recommendations.

I live in Indiana, so the summers are hot and there is snow in the winter. I do about 90% of my driving at high speed on the interstate and I want a tire that is quiet and smooth, and doesnt feel rough and transfer the bumps. I also do about 30,000 miles a year so I want one that will last for a bit.

I recently bought some Dunlop "Touring" tires for my other Bonne and they are noisy and I can feel every bump.

Any suggestions ? QUIET and SMOOTH is the aim here, not high performance. I would like to keep the price on the low end if possible.

Thanks,

Andrew

When I moved up here to Ohio, I put a set of Aquatred 3 Goodyear tires on my 96 (get a bit more rain/snow than in TN)
They seem a lot quieter than the Uniroyal garbage that was on it when I bought it, and they handle great (as far as I'm concerned) I live on a fairly windy road, so I put a fair amount of abuse on em. I've put about 27K on em so far (in the last 8 months), and I'd guesstimate they will last me at least another 40K or so, judging from the rate of wear at this point.

When I bought em, tirerack.com had em on sale for $77 each, I think they may have gone up a little--cost me $7.50 each for mounting and balancing. Considering the local goodyear dealer wnated $165 each for the tires, I figure I got a decent deal

Toyo Proxes TPT. Good price, and better and quiter than the Dunlop D60'* I had. Directional tread, and they shed winter water great.

I have Aquatred 3'* on my LSS (they were on when I bought it), suprisingly, they are not bad. We have Yokohama Avid Tourings on our van, I really like those. Quiet, comfortable ride, and they handle well, too. Good treadwear rating on both tires, they should last a long time.

Hey Guys,

I have decided to go with the GoodYear Eagle LS. They have high marks for ride smoothness and quietness and thats what I want.

And I can get them for $88 each plus $5 fitting at Sams Club. Excellent price !!

Thanks for all your input

Cheers,

Andrew
