exhaust issue....broke=(
hey guys,
I was driving into work tonight and hit a bump I think. My car got loud real quick like. I looked under the Bonneville and seen that the exhaust broken right where the header(?) meets the Catalytic Converter. I didn't see any rust, but the break looks clean almost like the weld broke.
My question is what am I looking for to fix it?

you probably have an after market catalytic converter with a bad weld job...10 minutes at the muffler shop should fix it...dont drive the car with the exhaust dragging or you will cause more damage

If it broke off AT the cat (and not at the flange), it'll be tougher, especially if you can't weld.
Replacing the cat would probably be easier, but not cheaper. If the cat is old, you should probably go that route.
Can you post a pic of the damage?

Here is the spot that broke.
I was able to get a better view of it in the day light. It was pretty rusted. I was able to buy a sleeve to slide over it and clamp it down. I had to use a 3inch sleeve becuase the rust was just bad enough not to allow the 2 1/2inch to slide over it. I used two C-clamps,a piece of wood and few nice curse words to get it on. I cut the 3inch pipe down the center so the edges would overlap and so the 2 1/2inch clamps would fight very tightly. It'* a temp fix, but will do until I can buy the new exhaust system.
