HELP! Can't get my steering wheel back on!!
Fixed the broken VATS wire to my ignition switch. What a pain! Let me tell ya. I am pleased the car runs again but for the life of me I cant get the steering wheel back on. That goddamn spring is too strong and I can't compress it enought to install the lock ring that holds the whole thing in place. Anyone have any ideas?? Please?? I need my car back. :(

Call around to your local auto parts stores and see if they will loan you a kit with the special tools you need to do this easily. I used to fight with homemade stuff like a couple of 1/4" steel blocks on either side of the upper shaft lock and a super heavy big washer under the steering wheel nut, then used the nut to compress the spring to where I could snap the ring in the groove.
But, unless the store where you can borrow the tool is more than 20 miles away, you'll save time and aggravation with the proper tool.

I agree with Bill on this one, you must have the proper tools to do this, otherwise you will end up damaging something, or yourself. It sounds like you have having a problem with the ring puller.. or whatever it'* called. Autozone has the tool you will need [or tools]. They may be broken, however.. open them up prior to your purchase.
