Default L27 Coolant Loss???






This was just after I turned off the motor btw.


5,000 miles ago it was just past the FULL HOT line.....

NO evidence of any leaks at all anywhere on the outside.

The Cap is tight as Hell.

Is this normal?

Coolant is definitely low. Hope you look at it more often than 5,000 mile intervals. I just replaced my upper intake in the last three weeks on a 96 Olds 88, at 62,500 miles, it had failed in the "classic" location.

Have you changed your upper intake? If no visible leaks external, probably internal. Easiest way to check is to remove throttle body and look into the upper intake manifold inlet end. If it is wet all over the place you have the leak.

Maybe you are just on the front end. Catch it quick before you hydrolock your engine. How many miles do you have on your Bonne?

Check closer on the outside. If it'* not going out, it'* probably the lower intake gaskets.

I dont have a series II, but a series one so I dont think I have EGR problems.

ALSO, it is the same car as yours buddy lol.

Hans it is going somewhere, really check over the external. If it'* not external run a compression test just in case. We don't seem to have intake and head failures especially on the series 1'*. But it'* going somewhere and that'* not a huge usage, it'* enough though.

Also lean way over (only when the car is ice cold) and look through the fans to the radiator, check the endcaps as well.

also series one'* do fail just not as regularly as series 2'*

I've never seen a Series 1 upper intake manifold FAIL. The gaskets may leak occasionally, but that'* not the intake itself.

Yup. And sometimes it only leaks to the inside, so you don't see it. Sips away at the coolant for awhile.

yeah the TB gasket will be replaced soon....how hard is it to replace the lower manifold gasket?


BTW i am religious when it comes to engine degreaser, and the leak has occured since my last degreasing session
