In my 1992 SSE tight or hard right turns will make me lose power and in a way stall. After about 2 seconds of going straight the pedal will once again start working and the car will drive jsut fine. Left turns do nto yield thsi problem.


Any ideas what it may be?

My best advice would be to get a fuel tank out of a 1993-1995 SSE or SE. Including pump and sending unit.

The 1992 tank assembly had a little problem with the fuel sending unit, and a lack of baffles and inferior strainer assembly.

You can replace the pump/strainer if you like, but I'd think the full tank swap to get the better baffles would be a much better option. Find a good wrecker.

Good luck depending on your location. Here in New England wreckers must take the tank out and crush it before the car can go out into population for wrecking. Seems though that some places will leave them in...or maybe allow you to "order" one.

my '98 has this exact same problem, except that it does this on both turns. will, you mention a problem with the tank assemblies on the '92s. is there a similar problem in '98?

it doesn't happen every time i make a turn, and goes away for a while after the fuel cap has been off.

i've posted on this problem before, but no one has had much of an idea of what the problem may have been.

it should not be a problem in the 98, IM thinking a bad pump/ strainer, or FPR, there was a recall on the FPR for some 98'*

My family has 3 92 H-bodies, all had the same stalling problem on right hand turns. Just replaced the strainers (and pumps while we were in there) and never had the same problem since. I've never personally seen any problem caused by the tank or its baffling.

my car did have the FPR recall taken care of. i'm not completely convinced that a strainer would fix the problem, unless anyone knows of a reason this would be bad. do these tend to clog with debris in fuel? and if so, since it is submerged in fuel, i would think it is constantly being cleaned by the movement and detergents in fuel. it is a '98, and i would have thought the problem would have been rectified six years later.

i always use reputable fuel (for the most part from the same BP station, if not then definitely a BP station) and many other people don't have a problem with their fuel.

this problem is increasingly frustrating as everything that i've tried in the past has not fixed the problem, and i've had the problem since the car was brand new.

any more tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
