1993 bonneville gaskets
The full resto continues, moving on to the engine. I'm keeping it stock, no mods. Engine ran great when pulled, has 130K on it. I plan on replacing most of the gaskets as I clean it up.
I don't plan on doing anything on the bottom end, but I am contemplating, as a matter of course, replacing the timing chain and gears, and doing a valve job. Should I also consider an oil pump? And, have the torque proceedures on the heads been updated or revised since the publication of the GM service manual? (I am remembering how many times Ford updated things on their lousy 3.8 engine I had in my Taurus way back) Anyone have thoughts on the felpro engine gasket set KS2686? Any other words of wisdom? Mike.. why take it apart if it'* running good? Our motors don't wear much. Timing chain might be reasonably stretched and I could see replacing that. However the oil pump is not a typical wear item, nor are the valves.

Well, I had no leaks to speak of.. But the engine has been sitting for almost a year, I'm figuring seals have dried up, etc. If they don't these days, then great!! Let me know about that... But back in the day, you could not let them sit..
Any issues with head gaskets at this age? I thought I'd look at the valves, maybe at least change the valve seals, but if the head gaskets stay solid in the '93'*, then I'll leave them alone. The car is getting a complete restoration, so at the very least, that engine needs to look good.. Any need to remove the plenum from the lower intake? I have some slight seepage at the lower intake, so I think those gaskets should be changed. Any other thoughts, thanks. Mike

I haven't seen any leaking issues when motors sit for a year. You should be good there. Head gaskets are not an issue either.
I'd do the LIM'* for the seepage you mention, making sure to use sealer on the LIM bolts to ensure there'* no wicking afterwards.

so, it would be your...
...thoughts to forget my old-school thinking (70'* chevy v-8'*) and change out the LIM gaskets, rocker cover gaskets, maybe toss in a timing chain, oil pan gasket, and anything else that seems to be seeping.. I suppose a balancer seal and rear main might not be a bad idea (or maybe that'* still part of the timing chain and oil pan) .. But don't touch the heads if all was well before... Mike
