Default Diff cover won't sit flush against case?

I switched differentials in my new transmission to acheive the 3.06 FDR versus the 2.86 that was in it originally. Since then, I haven't been able to get the differential cover to sit flush against the transmission case. The differential itself seems to rock more than I'm comfortable with when it'* mounted on the shaft and with the c-clip in place, and when I put the case on it will rock around the center of the axle shaft hole. I can get three of the four bolt holes close, but there'* always one side that isn't against the case.

I swapped the final drive sun gear and the final drive carrier with all the gears in it. The case is the original case from the 2.86 (i cracked the 3.06 case when tightening it because i didn't realize that it wasn't lined up correctly). Do I need to swap more than that? Any ideas? This is the last thing holding me up in completing my motor and transmission swap!

I think the 3.06 case is larger than the 2.86. Did you compare the cases too see if they are the same? I don;t think they are.

They look identical, and from http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=61359 it has been confirmed that they're the same.

Make sure that ITEM 689 is inserted all the way in. Should not wiggle around at all.

If you pulled out ITEM 695, it might have gotten flipped around. Only goes in one way.

Same thing with ITEM'* 714 and 715. They only go in one way.

Watch out for that c-clip. I popped mine off couple weeks ago and its still MIA.

And again, you come through with some fantastic transmission information. Turns out, item 714 was stuck to the carrier (700) and i was just being an idiot and double stacking the washers. Also, is the diff cover notched somehow? It didn't look like it, but it clicked into place and BAM it was done.
