1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE Fuel pump or Filter
I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE with 116,000 miles 3800 II engine. My car doesn't start after it'* been running awhile, but it starts great when it'* cold. I know when the engine is going to run ok when it revs up to 3 or 4 rpms on it'* own and it idles fine for awhile. When I go to start it after it'* been running , after it'* been running it wants to stall, but if I tap the gas pedal (lightly) it will surge and not stall. When it doesn't start I'll let it sit for 30-45 minutes and it'll start right away. I took it to my mechanic and he says the fuel pumps pressure is low and it needs to be replaced. Does this sound like the pump? Can it be the fuel filter needs to replaced and not the pump? Where can I find the fuel filter in a 97 Pontiac Bonneville SE? I can't afford a few hundred dollars right now to fix it. I'd like to try it myself. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
