Another tranny gone bad
The trans on my 95 SSEi finally went. It was doing a bit of shuddering, which progressed to slipping, now it won't hold any gear if I give it anything but gentle power. I knew it was going, surprised it lasted as long as it did. Just didn't have the time or bucks to deal with it.
Anyway, I'm thinking of putting in a rebuild and was hoping for some feedback on price range, any things to consider and possibly suggestions on good sources for the unit. If I could get it local to my home, Cary NC, it may help the price and core return.
As always, thanks in advance for any help...

Buy yourself a trans manual and you could save yourself a few hundred dollars. If you could, drop the oil pan off the trans and see whats in the bottom. Second, if you could, pop the diff cover off the trans.(requires removal of passenger driveshaft)
Your symptoms sound just like mine.
You can peruse my thread on the same subject though....

Mike1995: Read through your thread, some good info, nice post. We also have some common background; I'm ex-Army and use to live in Ithaca, NY, small world.
I'm going to take the car to a trans shop for a free diagnostic, just to see what they have to say. I don't have the mechanical experience you do, so I'm hesitant to attempt a rebuild myself. I've done almost all my own maintenance and repairs so far, but never any tran work, other then the filter and fluid. Which I did less than a year ago, after the problems started, and the pan was free of debris.
What tran manual did you get and what did it cost? If you don't mind me asking.
I’m thinking it might be a TCC problem, but I’m no expert.
I'm going to collect as much info as possible on all my options and go from there. Once I have some solid numbers I’ll start tearing it apart and see what I see.
Your help is very much appreciated!

Cool on the former Army! Ithaca is NOT gorges. I bought the manual online at ATSG. http://www.atsg.biz/cgi-bin/shopper....26pricecode%3D
If you have at least some mechanical experience, then I could safely assume you could do trans work. As LONG as you have the manual.(remember the Army saying "do it by the book") This manual gives a precies step by step procedure for disassembly, inspection, and reassemble. Good clear pictures helped also. Better than some of our TM'*. Considering, you have the SSEi, your'* is going to be slightly different than mine. I have the 4T60-E, you should have the 4T65-E. Which is the heavier duty trans due to the */C. Good luck, hope you don't find anything to costly.
NOTE:
I injured my back last night at work and I am on some good drugs right now, so if my posts are off a little, you'll know why.
