My 1995 Bonnie with electronic climate control is having problems with the air conditioner. Up till a few days ago I had ice cold air flowing but now all I'm getting is HOT blowing out. The first time this problem occured the cold air started to blow again after restarting it in the morning. It ran fine till I shut of the car to get gas. As soon as I restarted it I was being blasted with hot air. Wouldn't have been to bad if it was winter. But yesterday it was over 100 degrees here & the weather forcast doesn't sound like it going to be cooling for a while.

One thing I did notice if it matters... When I start my car the electronic climate control temp flashes for a long time. I don't know if this should be doing this. It'* something that has been going on since I got the car earlier this year.

So does anybody have any ideas on what it could be?

P.*. Leather interior might be nice but it sure does a good job making gravy when your air conditioner isn't working.

When the Electronic Climate Control temperature is flashing, this indicates a malfunction in the ECC. The compressor clutch is probably not engaging due to an inhibit condition. Can you verify the a/c clutch is not engaging, or if it is engaging and get back to us? I think the dealer may have to pull Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from the ECC. There could also be a problem with one of the air mix doors or actuators giving you this problem.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be making a appointment with the stealership to have them scan the system for me and go from there.

As for drivng with the windows down... It not bad when the weather is decent. But the last few days it has been raining big time. We got over 3" in a few hours. Also dirt roads aren't the most fun things to drive down with the windows down. Over a 1/3 of my driving is down dirt roads. So instead of sweating my butt off I'm eating the MPG and using my big truck. 12 MPG and air is better than being sweaty & dirty.

Having the codes read is good advice. If they tell you that your ECC needs “calibration”, chances are your air mix actuator is defunct. You can easily verify whether or not it’* functioning properly by removing your glove box (a handful of 7mm screws), looking through a hole in the dash bracing, and watching your air mix door arm move back and forth as you run the temp from max cool to max hot.

Have your codes read first, and if calibration’* required I can give you more details on checking your air mix actuator. A faulty air mix actuator can definitely cause you’re A/C to blow hot or your heater to blow cold.
