Ah, nope; the keyless entry is not an infrared system so it doesn't need any kind of light sensor, just an antenna.

Well, it's supposed to switch on when it _doesn't_ see light, so if it's dirty, it should be working even more... :-)

I'm going to try and get my sensor out of the dash, test its resistance, and test what sort of voltage it's getting in the first place. Something's going flaky in my car, and it sounds like yours has died completely, the same way...

The windshield defroster grille simply snaps off. The manual says to pry it upward.

Great; thanks. Only problem right now is that it's too effing cold to work on the car without setting up heaters, etc. in the garage first. Supposed to get warmer in a day or so.

Will let you know what I find. I wouldn't recommend anybody buying a new light sensor until you know for sure that _that_ is the dead component. After all, it could be the power supply feeding to it, or it could whichever component is supposed to measure its output to decide when to turn the lights on, or it could be the relay itself needing too much juice to close its contacts, etc.

Personally I'm thinking it is _not_ the sensor that's gone wrong on my car, since the system is _more_ sensitive to light than it should be; it hasn't gone blind.

IOW, once I get to the parts, I plan to test them, not just replace themfirst. It's cheaper that way. :-)
