If so equipped, then it is located as part of your head light dimmer switch on the dash. There is a dial there you can adjust the sensitivity with.

Then just turn the control ring (the ring surrounding your headlamp knob) fully clockwise until it clicks; that turns the Twilight Sentinel off.

If you're talking about the Daytime Running Lamps coming on, that's different. Is your complaint that only the headlamps are coming on (dimmer than usual), or are _all_ lights, including markers, taillamps and your dashboard, coming on when you don't want them to?

Right, that's your Twilight Sentinel.

Right, I'm talking about the ring _around_ the knob, not the knob itself. There is a ring there, right? It controls how long the lights stay on after you shut off the car, and when you turn it fully clockwise until it clicks, it turns off the Twilight Sentinel altogether, so the lights don't come on at all unless you pull the knob out manually.

Somebody with a '99 SE back me on this, please: they didn't change the Twilight Sentinel controls for the '99 cars, did they? Shouldn't he be able to just turn the ring to turn the TS off?

it stays on even if you turn it back, i think they changed for 99.when i turn the car off it shuts the lights off.

Check your owner's manual. I can't believe you can't switch off the Twilight Sentinel. Anybody else with a '99 want to jump in here?

Useless Headlamp Switch

I don’t know about the 99 Bonneville, but my 99 GMC Sierra is that way. Were not talking DRL’s were talking headlamps. The headlamp switch is of no use at all. The headlamps come on automatically at dark and you can not turn them off unless you, shut the engine off, then depress parking brake about 1 inch, then you can restart engine and use the light switch as normal, but once you start to drive the vehicle the brake warning chime starts going off because you got your parking brake depressed, release it and you headlamps come back on automatically. A major pain in the butt at the guard shack or at the boat ramp early in the morning. Can’t believe GM was so stupid! At least the changed it for the 2000 model year GMC’s
