I'm hoping someone can help me... I"ve been having problems getting the car into park.. I know the button isn't broken and I'm on the brakes, but at times it wouldn't go into park, and 1st gear too. I think the linkage maybe the problem, but how can I go around to finding out what'* causing it ? I just don't like to leave the car in neutral and parking brakes on with the key in the ignition.

Murdock don't shoot me, but when you squeeze the shifter to move it, make sure it is pushed all the way down on the bar. Sometimes mine lifts up the tiniest but and it will not work. I got all freaked out thinking it was my tranny at first too Hope that is all it is or you're going to get a tranny on $45 all you can carry day!! *knock on wood*

I don't think it'* the button because I depress it all the way ( and if it'* the button not being depressed all the way I couldn't get it into D,R,3,2,1.. I know you can slap it into neutral without having to depress the button ), and it'* smooth through out all of them as normal except for Park and 1st gear.. I couldn't see anything lodging and being stuck in the way. Deathrat... how hard is it to remove the center console to take a look at the mechanism ?

no, not the button, the actual shifter. Hit it on the head. I'll show you tonight what i am talkign about

Ouch... ( Covering groin )... you not hitting my head... ha ha ha ha..... ok... hopefully that'll work... kinda reminds me of how I use to fix thing... a lot of swearing.. some duct tape.. and a whole lot of kicking and punching..

heh, when i wrote the "hit it on the head" comment, I knew you were going to come back with something like that. Sure you do my cold air and I will fix your shifter hehe but my work dosn't come with any warantee or guarantee! :o

What ?!?!?!? No satisfaction guaranteed ?!?!?!?!? LOL Kidding....

Just to say... Tamara... you're right... apparently the shifter **** isn't secured onto the shifter by any screw or pinion screws. I had to slam my head ( pardon the pun ) and voila... cheapest fix ever. I will just have to find some time later on and drill and tap to ensure the shifter **** stays secure. The problem is that when the shifter **** sticks up a little, the button that you compress on the **** doesn't fully depress the button underneath it to allow it to shift to park properly. Thanx for the head slamming lesson Tamara ha ha ha....
