Default Mixing vent?

So my heat blows cold. Sometimes if I turn the temp all the way down and back up, it starts working.
Is it the mixing vent? Can I fix it if I take out my glove box?

You can barely reach it, and even then, not really. To GET to it, you must remove the dash.

Or do what I did when it totally fails:

I once read a thread where a guy cut a 2" x 4" hole in the steel dash structure to change the actuator. Not my recommendation.

I removed the dash to change mine but there has been one or two that were able to change from under the dash. Afterall, the actuator does live on the heater core cover so if you can get that off, you can replace it. The problem is that there'* not a lot of room up there. I scratched the hell out of my arm and hand while swapping the HVAC programmer in the 93. There'* one electrical connector directly from the programmer to the actuator and it'* up there.

If I had to do it again, I'd remove the dash but it is possible to do without.

I'd say "I hear banjo music," but then I'm the guy that once sawzalled the bottom off the oil pan on my '69 LeMans in -24 degree Ohio weather to change a broken oil pump drive, and then welded the sump back on.

so, excellent!

You have to realize that I'm concentrating nearly my full attention on the SSEi right now. The SLE is simply the daily driver while the SSEi is still being worked on. Later on (spring) I'll gut the interior of the SLE and fix the airmix actuator and airbags. Right now, it just has to run.

"Right now, it just has to run."

And so it does. Good fix.

As you can see from my post above, I've had a few of those myself.

And don't feel bad. I used my lady'* pantyhose once for an emergency fan belt.

We'll say necessity is an inventive thing. You'll try darn near anything in a pinch.
