Default Low oil pressue

In an effort to ask the opposite question as the other member, I am having a problem with low oil pressue. I have a newly rebuilt motor in my car. I drove my car to work today. The thing that worries me is that when I drop down to idle, my oil pressue drops into the red. I rev the car to about 2000 RPM and then it is fine while I am driving. It kinda worries me. Should I use a thicker oil during breakin or am I having a genuine problem here?

With a newly rebuilt motor you should not be seeing that. Call the place that put it in or rebuilt it asap and make sure you don't void any warranty or guarantees

yep, replaced the oil pump and torqued it down to spec. I think it may be the pressue release spring that may need to be replaced. And, yes I'm a car nut, but not enough of a nut to want to build that motor again. I picked a motor with way too much going on for my first rebuild. The crank was turned .010 and I have an agressive cam(thank you seriesoneperformance.com) and ported heads. idles rough, but runs great.

Didn't someone else have this problem before? It was found that the oil pressure relief valve spring and valve were put in reversed. The spring has to go into the pump first and then the valve, gasket and oil filter adapter. Don't know if that'* your problem but might be a suggestion. Good luck

Default Low Oil Pressure

My 92 was experiencing this anomaly when I purchased it from the original owner and during the test drive, he placated my concern by showing me receipts as proof that he had the problem professionally investigated.

At any rate, after the next scheduled oil change I rejoiced when the low oil pressure at idle syndrome went away. However, very close to the next scheduled oil change that familiar ‘ding ding ding’ signaling low oil pressure began to occur - but only occasionally.

Ya, this has been some helpful information [he rolls his eyes]. However, seriously, it may not be as complicated as some previous posts suggest - you might be fortunate like I was by simply using different oil.

What oil and filter did you put in for the breakin?
