Default Flucuating Speedo

My speedomoter is acting goofy in the morning when I start it up, until 10 minutes of driving then it operates normally. I will accelerate but instead of the needle going up smoothly it jumps from 5 - 10 - 15 -23 -30 not in that order necessarily but skips like that. It does get to the speed I am at, but takes a while and skips like mentioned before. It only does this for 10 minutes and is fine after that. Even when I shut the car off the needle is stuck at 10 mph. Any ideas what is wrong? It has done this for 2 days strait.

You need to get a scantool on the car for a cold drive. Watch the VSS input to the PCM and see if it jumps as well. If it does, that'* your culprit. If not, it'* either the PCM or cluster.

I agree. Probably either the VSS or the gauge itself.

I had similar symptoms with mine awhile ago. While driving on the interstate, the speedo went really wacky. It bounced from 60 to 40 to 80 and finally to 0. A few minuts later the Speedo was fine. Also, when the Speedo went beserk, the Cruise Control was inactive and the TCC that, I believe, controls the Overdrive was also very confused(going in and out of Overdrive). I replaced the VSS and this cured the problem(*).
