Default Transmission Life Question

I now have 2-19000gvw coolers, and change the fluid regularly (one or two changes per year). Is there any else that can be done to prolong my transmissions life?

You've done just about all you can,....Just don't do any one wheel peels with'em and you should be great.

my 1992 sse with 230,000 miles has original trans and original fluid and shifts great. at this point im afraid to change it. the trans might go into shock HA HA !!!!

Might be a bit much. There are disadvantages to overcooling the trans, especially in the winter. You might consider replacing both coolers with a single large thermostatically-controlled cooler. That'* what my spring plans are. In the winter, I cover most of my trans cooler(*) front surface area to allow the trans to warm up.

I suggest strongly that you add a trans temp gauge.

NOTE:
It has been shown that the 4T60E trans series benefits in a longer life from the addition of a trans cooler. This is not the case with the 4T65E, unless towing or driving in mountains alot.

I have 2 made by B&M that is supposed to be temp controlled by some sort of technology. You may know more about that than I do. A temp gauge is on my list.
B&M'* SuperCooler low pressure drop coolers reduce the risk of lube system failure. A controlled amount of ATF is allowed to bypass the stacked plate core, passing through a self-regulating orifice which monitors resistance to flow. Controlled by viscosity, the thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two open bypass openings in the stacked plate core. As operating temperatures increase, more of the ATF flow is directed through the core. Resulting in a highly efficient cooling technology that combines improved protection against lube system failure with the required levels of optimal heat transfer.

somewhat related... are there any beefed up tranny options for us guys with the 4t60e? will a 4t65 or HD bolt up on our cars? i'd like to have some options to look at if my tranny goes kaput.

There are beefed up options, but the 4T60'* seem to outlast the 65'*, even on modded cars. Mine is just now dying at 110k. On the SSEi'* from 92-95, the weak spot seems to be the diff. They go big, and take the case with them, but it'* usually something else that fails, then it feeds the diff something it doesn't like, and BOOM.

65'* will bolt up, but you'll have to upgrade to a 97 or newer PCM from the same donor car to be able to control it. That'* a big job, and I'm not sure you'll gain any reliability. The 65'* are more troublesome, but more moddable. It'* a trade-off.

I can't complain about the lifetime of my trans at all. If I get 50k out of the next one, I'll be more than pleased.

that'* really interesting... i would have thought the "older" technology would go out quicker. isn't it true that the 4t60s are pretty much maxed-out on torque and hp in our cars from the factory? i'd like to put something with some headroom in there if i'm gonna keep modding this car over a period of years. any good aftermarket options?
