Hey guys stumbled on this site the other week and was wondering if you had any ideas on a few issues in my care these days. First the traction control off light turns on a few minutes into driving, not really a constant amount of time once I start driving usually after i slow down to a stop does it pop on. The dealer says its going to be multiple hundreds of dollars to have it even looked at. Any ideas on whats wrong/if its fixable? thanks

Sounds like one or more wheel sensors are not reporting in when the ABS controller is expecting to hear from them, or perhaps the signal is going _away_ when you step on the brakes. In either case, since you don't get the light until you start a braking action, I think you might want to check the wiring to the sensors at all four wheels.

Also see if somebody will check for stored error codes for you. Sounds like your dealer isn't interested in helping you but maybe someplace like a local Auto Zone can pull codes for you and see what'* in there (if any).

I have the same problem. Some days I can go for up to 30 minutes and it stays before it goes off, other days about 2 minutes. I had it checked out once and they said it would be a $700 repair. I haven't fixed it yet. I have heard people say the wheel sensors but I am waiting for it to warm up here before I tackel that.

I have the same issue, had the codes checked ($75.00) and was told that the ABS modulator was bad. The ABS system works fine, and yes the front wheels will break loose if I open up the SC, dealership wants $700.00+ dollars to replace. I'll wait for a nice used one to show up.

Before you throw $700 at anything, I would suggest taking a _really_ close look at the wiring going out to all four wheels, especially the front ones. They've had years of flexing to follow the wheels around corners and over bumps, and it'* not unreasonable to think that one or more may have broken leads inside their insulation that interrupt the circuit when twisted or turned a certain way.

Had the same problem for about a month. Found out it was an intake manifold airleak causing low vacuum at the ABS thus turning on the light. Went away after replacing the Manifold Gaskets....

Question, do you want the TC? ABS is nice in some cases, but TC? Only slows you down!

You're in Minnesota and you want to know why someone would need traction control?

I once found a parking lot full of glare ice to try out the TC on. It was easy to slither all over the place with the TC off, but then I switched it on and tried for a smooth takeoff instead. I could hear the ABS pump going absolutely nuts trying to keep track of four slithering wheels at once, but other than a little hula-action dancing side-to-side, jeez, this car actually hauled its own butt off the ice. Cool.

Yes TC does have it'* uses, but older systems are different then newer ones. I know atleast 92/93 used applied braking, and newer ones use engine timing advance to bog it down.

I'd prefer the braking system myself, but that will stress the tranny slightly more.

Does it help? Yes. Can a drive do anything TC does? Yup. Require more thinking and control, yes!
