Transmission slipping
I got into my 1994 Bonneville SE (99k miles) and put it into gear. The engine revved, but I did not go anywhere. I shifted through the gears and then it shifted into reverse and ran fine. I checked the oil and it is full and looks brand new (bright red). I got in it today and the same thing happened, runs fine after I get going. Any ideas on what is wrong? I searched, but couldn't find this problem in the forums.
Thanks! 1994 Bonneville SE 99, miles |
I was about to suggest cold temperatures as a possible cause, but now that I see where you're posting from (the land of perpetual warmth and sun), I'd have to say we need to look at other causes. Like the 1-2 shift solenoid sticking.
If it does it again, get some Seafoam Trans-Tune (must say trans tune on the bottle) and follow the instructions on the can. Give it a good 50 miles and some heat to work through your system. Let's hope the solenoid issue (if that's what it is) is just 'sticky' in a mechanical sense, rather than electrical. |
Thanks, I will give the Seafoam Trans-Tune a try. Would it also be a good idea to drop the pan and change the filter (if the filter is there)? I just hope the tranny isn't going. I just changed the water pump and LIM gasket.
Thanks again! |
