Transmission shifting issues...

Hello again, my girlfriends SSEi is once again having problems.
Lately, it's been hunting for gears. Usually on a stop or downshift, doesn't seem to have any issues upshifting. When she stops, she'll go again and the car will take off like it's in second or third gear and then after a few seconds, downshift into first. Likewise when hammering it from a roll, it'll wait and then downshift.

I put a little less than a quart of tranny fluid in it, as it looked quite low and she said that improved it a little bit, but hasn't gotten rid of the problem completely. Any ideas?

Thanks.

oh, oops. It's a '98 SSEi

Is the fluid up to the proper level?
what is the condition of the fluid and does it smell burnt?

Agreed... Is the fluid at the proper level?

You will need the car to be warm( short drive of a couple of miles should do, Not super hot )

While the car is idling, shift into each gear selection for at least 2 seconds to allow the fluid to fill all of the circuits.... Then once you make it to first hold it for a couple of seconds and shift into park, leaving the car idling check the fluid, it should be in the crosshatched area..

I'll check again and mess with it later tonight, or tomorrow.

Thanks.
