Ok when i was talkin to this guy at a car dealership about my car..he said at around 100k miles..the pistons (ithink) will blow in my SC. Anyone know what he'* talking about and what i should do to prepare.. Thanks.

I would have to agree. We have 647 members here and I don't know of one that has had that problem, and most cars of that age are at or over 100k miles on them. If you take care of your car I don't think you have anything to worry about. :P

Most of these superchargers will probably outlast the rest of the drivetrain if properly cared for. Amazing, considering how fast they spin. The worst thing that can happen is for a rotor bearing or rotor shaft to wear. This induces slop to the point where the rotors would contact each other or the housing. Bad! BUT....you'd know it if it happened.

Other than that (which I've never seen until recently), the only other mainenance items are a routine bearing replacment, sloppy coupler (30 bucks at zzp), and oil change. I've never heard of gear damage, and at 80k, mine looked brand new.

The only reason you would ever change the whole nosedrive would be if you didn't feel comfortable replacing the coupler and bearings yourself, but even that would happen alot less often than 100k or 150k if properly cared for.

The dealer was trying to scare you into buying something from him. But lets put this in perspective. A $2000 supercharger is still cheaper than a $7000-$15000 car (Assuming he was a used car salesman) or a $13000-$30000 car (assuming he was a new car salesman). Ad in the negative equity you currently have in Alien II, you can see that even if you purchased a new SC, you still come out ahead!

All that asside, your SC should last a long while. I know of two members who changed their SC'* out--one to a FLOZ as an upgrade (ask Will about that), and one to a rebuilt unit due to low boost. Neither one of them had any catastrophic failure. It can happen if you don't perform maintenance on them, run them without oil with a pulley that is way too small, and over rev the engine consistantly, but it isn't common and chances are that if you do those things, the rest of the engine will fail first.

Tell that polyester suit wearing, money hungry, unscrupulous salesman that his claim is ludicrous, and that you would never purchase a car from a dealer that he works for.

Let me correct my statement..i meant the supercharger berrings.

Bearings? Probably 200k if properly maintained and driven. Hard to say. Worry about it 20k miles after it starts making noise.
