i think im going to purchase the solenoid kit and do the fluid flush. however, id like to know if you guys know any way to test the solenoids. they seem easy enough to remove so im thinking ill take them out and test them somehow to see if i even need the new kit. i saw it on ebay for about $60 with shipping. also i just came across a product made by b&m called shiftplus, its supposed to improve shifting and add life to the trans? any thoughts on this product? I also saw new remanufactured transmissions for around $700. would i be better off just getting a whole new trans? thanks.

This is new to me. I've never heard that the solenoids were easy to get at and change. Interesting and something to look into further.

I've never seen that happen. Not on my own cars or any other here in the last 3 years.

well i think its ure transmission because when i bought my 92 bonnie se i had it on the freeway and my car suddenly didnt wanna go and it felt like i was in nuetral and i did the same thing u would do keith i would turn it on and off i figured dat da tranny was getting hot and overheating so i would let it cool down once it cooled down it would go again but not far i got a new transmission and it works perfectly fine but its ure decision if u want a new transmission

The transmission side cover has to be removed...quite labor intensive. The process is about the same as posted here.

yeah i didnt realize it was such a big job. i thought it was similar to the bottom pan. i started unbolting the bolts and then noticed that the driveshaft comes out of the middle of it, so id have to remove that to get to the pan. while i was under the car i noticed a very wet and dirty transmission pan.. it seems that my tranny has been leaking! the top side bolts are nice and clean but the bottom ones had to be wiped off to unbolt. and some of them i could unscrew by hand. now i think im just going to take willwrens advise and get a flush done, and clean up those bolts and make sure everything's nice and snug. anyone know of a way to test the solenoids? would i get a check engine light if they werent working properly?
