I am a new member and new at this...any suggestions lemme know.

Purchased my 97 Bonneville SE with 42,000 miles(39 at time) about 3 months ago and have loved it to the point where...nevermind thats another story for another time. jk

My wiper blades go back and forth fine, but when I make them go to the "resting" position they stop short on the window. This causes them to be about 5 inches too high off their mark. Do I have a burnt out wiper motor? I have had snow under them because I live in New York that didnt let them go down all the way. If I do have to replace the motor, how do I get in there? Anyone else with this problem? Thanks for the help.

Alright heres the deal.... went to the library and got the Chiltons manual for my 97 Bonni.

Basically ended up taking off the wipers and repositioning them. They do not sweep as far, but now they sink in under the hood and i'm happy. steps

Put wipers in the 1/2 swipe across the windshield postion

Pull up on wiper and push out the pin away from where it connects to the rod.

This should now lock the wiper up and come off easy. If it does not, replace pin to original position and try over.

The entire wiper is now off

Go back into car and turn the **** to off for the wipers. Now once done turning turn car off.

replace wipers by putting them on again slightly past the designated resting place(towards engine)

Push metal clip back towards rod and you are done.

Bonbon, that'* probably a result of someone trying to 'park the wipers' with an ice dam on the hood. Mine did that last month, and it bent something (or tweaked something, which isn't as serious as bent). I simply cleared away the snow and ice, turned on the wipers on intermittent, and waited to pounce. As soon as the started moving, I pulled them back down. Did this gently a couple times, and now they park correctly, and still go full sweep.

The only time you should have to reposition the arms on the studs is if one was removed and reinstalled incorrectly. Or if a stud strips.

the wiper blades on my 1994 se rest well below the hood but do something slightly odd.

when engaged they go from the down position,
they sweep the windshield,
rest at a low point on the windshield where there supposed to be,
and then before they sweep again after whatever time interval, they dip down slightly before going up.

they still work really well so im not going to complain yet but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this seeing as your already discussing the wipers.
