Trans Slipping

'97 Bonneville, 89,000 miles, all stock, second owner, just did the manifold dance, now the trans started to slip in first and second. Gets worse with time and distance. Yesterday the transmission shop wants to rebuild it. I told them to do the filter and fluid. Drove it today pretty hard - hasn't slipped since. Am I just buying time or is there a way to tell definitively? I hear these are good transmissions. What have your experiences been?

Thanks, Be Safe,
Glenn

The trans is very strong. The filter change more then likely fixed the problem because it was plugged and not allowing fluid to move freely, so the fluid pressure was low. This is something best to do yourself so you can inspect the fluid and magnet.

Thanks for the quick reply. My gm experience spans roughly 50's to early 80's. I lost track when computers and front wheel drive came as standard equipment. We're gonna give this a wait and see attitude but keep an eye on it.

Thanks much, Be Safe,
Glenn
