How many miles?

Sounds like a full rebuild to me. Taking apart a fwd trans isn't something any of the Gearheads here are willing to do.

Plastic? Could be a thrust seal. I dont know more specifics, but that its definately an internal part. I found a big whitish plastic peice in the drain pan once I dropped the tranny pan to change the filter. My Tranny does some weird things sometimes, but it usually goes away when I mash the pedal. LMAO!!

I think a factory service manual would be your best bet.

Found mine on ebay for $25 shipped!

Adam,
Like said, most of us here have not done any trans rebuilding. Also, know that my personal knowledge is limited. However, in the interest of providing information, I searched online and found this as a start:

83-SGVT-22 GM 4T60E Video Tape & Overhaul Manual $61.66

On this site, that also sells the rebuild kits.

rebuild kit for your trans:
DK8400E GM 4T60E 1991-UP $441.17

Note that you can also buy HD rebuild parts that will help it last longer. Some are available on this site.

Also note what we have said above, recommending leaving transmission rebuilding to the professionals. I definitely don't recommend doing anything without first buying and studying the manual and tape above. If you do go the rebuild route, I'm sure we would be interested in seeing pictures of it all. ;)

Google is your friend... :D

no you cant do that.....and i believe that you need to find a Trans that is a 95, because of the differences of the electrical in the trans....

or you can rebuild yours

Yes you should be able to if the electronics are the same. You have to swap the sungear, diff, vechicle speed sensor wheel and possibly the diff housing. You may also run into a bigger problem if it is the HD trans. I believe this is due to different valve body settings and a few different hard parts.
www.bulkpart.com has alot of misc. parts and rebuild kits.
If you want to check out www.60degreev6.com they mess with the final drive ratio of the 4t60-e much more on there.
