The car was driving normally, the tranny was shifting fine, it WAS in performance mode, but that was it. I was going about 65 when it happened. Has anyone seen this before?

Yes, this is pretty typical of a possibly unhooked, corroded or back WSS.

Best to check all 4 connections first..unplug and rehook then to ensure proper connection.

Same thing on my 96. 2 times it happened after the car started, once it happened while driving. But it always goes away after the next engine start and it hasn't appeared in months.

Both ABS and Traction Control are controlled by the braking system and monitored through the WSS sensors. This hopefully will put your mind at ease that the trans is in no danger.
