Default car dies while coming to a stop.. only sometimes...

hi i just bought a 1995 bonneville se and i drove it home about 65 miles away from my house.. and it drove like a dream.. but all of a sudden yesterday and today the car died a total of 6 times. it drives perfect and strong untill i come to a stop them it will just shut off and only the electrical will stay on. when this happens the car always starts right back up. and sometime when i have the car just running in park the engine will make a sound as if it lost power then gained it back then it will just turn off and die..
car only dies on city streets.. does not have any problems on the highway..

also i hooked up a code reader to see what the car dies and the check enging light comes on but the code reader did not work and the guy from auto zone said my adapter was not giving his code reader any power or codes..? can anyone explain this also.. thanks...

Many have had this problem including myself. Do a search on this but start here http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=article&k=102

Auto Zone usually does not have the proper code reader for the 94-95 models. :(

Here is a recent topic that covers what you need in a scanner for your '95. All the info you need is in a concise topic:

Let'* get onto the diagnosis.

How much fuel is in the tank when it dies on you? Are these sudden stops and if you feather it to a stop does it still stall?

gas is always half full or more.. and these are stops like when someone in front of me slows down to turn so when i apply the brake it just dies... and the car is so quiet that i cant tell it dies untill the steering gets stiff... not good to have my kids in the car..

i just bought a lil rubber elbo from the dealer that goes from the engine manifold to what looks like the bottom of my alternator because its spitting out coolant... cause this be a reason my car keeps stalling.. i have the part but i cant figure out how to get the alternator and tensioner off to get to the elbo... any ideas? thanks

The coolant elbow won't be the issue for stalling..

However you remove the alt, then three bolts on the bracket and it'* off.

Are you trusting the gauge, or does this happen right after a fill-up too? FYI, (in the '93) there'* a metal sock that covers the fuel pump pickup that gets clogged over time and will starve the fuel system when the tank is low and you're braking hard or cornering. Typically manifests itself at 1/4 tank or less, but I think it'* possible to have this happen with more fuel in the tank. There'* also a plastic baffle in the tank that is designed to prevent this starvation at the fuel pump. This baffle is prone to cracking & breaking and exacerbates the problem.

Investigate the "easy" stuff first, but if you run into deadends, keep this in mind.
