Trannsmission slipping

I have a 1992 Bonneville SE with 143k miles. I dropped the trans pan and changed the filter about 5,000 miles ago. Yesterday I noticed when the transmission shifted from 2nd to Drive the RPM's would go to around 4k-5k and wouldnt catch until I let up on the gas or got it up to speed slowly and went to OD. I havent had any other problems until yesterday and it seems to be getting worse very fast. Does this sound like its the end of this tranny? Fluid level is fine and is not burnt at all. It was a quart low when I noticed the slipping and I have got it to the proper level, but it didnt help at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Please tell me you didn't use synthetic or a synthetic blend in the trans?

Nope, just Dexron III

Ok. Thank god for that. This is probably 'just time'. It'll get worse VERY fast. Do you have access to a scantool?

If not, can you tell us how many rpm's you're running with the cruise set at 55? (tcc locked up).

seems to run a little smoother with the cruise on, usually runs right around 1500rpms @ 55, and I dont have the slipping problem that I can tell, but running cruise in town is tedius! I dont have access to a scan tool that I can take with me. I can go to autozone and hook up but I doubt they will loan it to me :) (no trouble lights on either)

The best advice I can give you right now is that if the TCC is locking up ok at 55 in cruise (sounds like it is) but it's slipping in other gears, get it flushed professionally (80 bucks or so) and pray for the best. You might buy another year or two. This happened to me, but it's no gaurantee.

GEARHEADS! DON! Chime in here please.

Hey Willwren, is there any additive that is good to use in these trannys to stop slippage? And is there anything we should never use????

What's wrong with using synthetic ATF ?
I have used Mobil1 ATF in my 1988 Riv. for a long time it has 273000 mi. and it is still going. I have been having a transmission issue on my 94 Bonn for awhile.
I did put Mobil1 ATF in my 94 I wonder if that is why I'm having trouble with mine?

In my '93, I was having bad slip between 1st and 2nd gear. The TCC still worked beautifully, and did to the very end. Took it to the shop, checked the oil...burned. Had to replace the tranny, and it did get worse very fast.
