Has anybody added keyless entry to a Bonnie that didn't come with keyless entry from the factory? I'd like to add it to my 93 Bonneville.

If anyone did add it, what components (other than the key fobs) were needed and what did you do to program the remotes to the car?

Okay, couple of things first:

1) You _do_ have power locks, right?

2) You _do_ know for a fact that your car doesn't actually have it already, and a previous owner didn't simply lose the key-fob transmitters? If the RPO option code sticker in your trunk (under the mat) includes option code AU0, the car is already equipped with it, you just need a couple replacement key fobs, and you can ignore all the rest of my stuff below.

I wouldn't try retro-fitting the factory components for Keyless Entry from a junkyard donor; it might be possible but you'll probably have all kinds of wiring harness headaches to deal with.

An aftermarket kit would be better for your situation. My '93 now has an aftermarket Keyless Entry as part of the BulldogSecurity remote starter I installed, and it acts by operating the power door lock switch circuit, which is the usual aftermarket way. The car'* original Keyless Entry system is undisturbed so I can always fall back on using that, with the original transmitters, if the BulldogSecurity box dies for any reason.

The aftermarket kits come with their own little receiver box that you install under the dash, and tap into an unswitched power circuit. The box will probably use relays to close the Lock or Unlock circuits leading to one of the door switches when you press a button on your remote. They usually offer a secondary lead to flash the car'* parking lights as confirmation; that you would connect to the brown wire coming off your headlight switch.

One tip for you, if you have the factory security system on your car that arms when you lock the car: You should connect your Lock and Unlock wires to the Yellow and Light Green wires (respectively) that are attached to the outside key lock cylinder in the driver'* door, and not to the inside rocker switch in the armrest. This will ensure that the security system will arm whenever you lock the car using the transmitter, since the car will think that you are outside, locking it with a key. Otherwise, if you connect to the inside rocker switch instead, the security system will only arm itself if the door is open at the time (as if you locked it while you were getting out). Otherwise it will not arm the system at all, since it will think that you are locking the doors from inside the car.
