I tried searching for a similar issue but found none. So . . .

This week I noticed a slight gas smell coming from under the hood of my '93 SSE. Turns out that one of the front fuel injector seals (the purple colored oval shaped rubber plug that encases the wires going into the injector) was partially pulled out of the plastic housing of the injector. How that happened I have no idea as it is protected by the plastic cover (with "3800" printed on it). I had the oil changed a couple months ago so maybe it was knocked loose? Anyway It was very difficult but I carefully massaged the plug back into the housing enough to stop the leak so I suppose I could drive it to a garage for repair. But do I need to replace the whole wire assembly for the front 3 injectors or can the plug be reinserted fully somehow? Can I do it myself fairly easily? Is it an expensive repair?

Piece of cake, go to GM and get the seals, and go to the store and get a chilton'*. MAX 1 1/2 hr job doing it yourself.

Maybe I'm reading this differently, but the way he describes his problem, it'* the ELECTRICAL connector blue oval protective boot, and it cannot possibly leak fuel.

You have a leak somewhere else.

I hope you can take a picture of the leaking injector.

I read it as the plug into the injector as well.

While being electrical...I suppose it'* almost possible that the injector is coming apart inside and pushing gas out... highly unlikely...

More likely is that the o rings between the fuel rail and injectors and injectors to lower intake manifold are old and dry rotted. Fairly easy to replace..takes a little finessing to get them on and off..Then..it'* a fairly easy job as Lakeville said..but if it'* something else...

The plug was originally popped out a lot more but I tried to push it back yesterday so it at least wouldn't leak as much. In doing so I think I may have caused the wire insulation break that is visible. It definitely was a gas leak! I originally found it by sticking my face close to the engine and following my nose.
