Umm...
at a compleat stop, if you press the traction button next to the shifter, the light on the dash continues to Read Traction Off? If so..is your Anti-lcok(ABS) light illuminated as well.
The traction control will not effect gas pedal firmness. You may feel a grumble from the brake pedal, this is normal right after start up on the first few initial stops as the ABS system is in test mode, after that it will only grumble if you are on ice with the brakes applied and it senses one wheel locking up over another.

To my knowledge the TC button is completely unrelated to the throttle and the master cylinder. That has to do with the programming in the PCM to keep you from spinning the tires as much.
Also..there is not a traction on light. Only off.

I think when the traction control actually does go on (if you are spinning your tires) it does apply the brakes. I know whenever I would forget to turn it off it sounded like the ABS was kicking in.

The throttle cable is supposed to be dry lubricated, right? Maybe someone greased the thing once and the grease got more viscous in the cold. Are the pedals sluggish to release?
