TPS enhancement question
 

I performed the throttle position enhancement as outlined in the site linked from TechInfo. I set my multimeter to measure resistance in the range of 20K ohms, connected the black wire to the ground (bottom prong as TP sits in TB), and connected the red wire to the sender (middle prong as TP sits in TB).

This is where it gets tricky...at idle, the multimeter read 1.03. At WOT, the multimeter read 4.78. I moved the TP sensor around (and even bent the tab inside to give a bigger adjustment) to get the multimeter to read the specified 0.70 at idle and 4.2 at WOT. After this, I drove my car and the shifting was so much smoother and the car ran great, however, the check engine light was on.

When I came back, I adjusted back nearly to the way it was. I have it set so the multimeter reads 0.95 at idle, 4.63 at WOT. The check engine light is off and the car still runs fine.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause for this is? Did I do something wrong? I wouldn't think my '98 would call for any difference than the model year of the car that the instructions came from.

Disconnect the battery for 30min.

The PCM sees the difference and is merely alerting you of the fact. Dame is having you unplug so it resets the PCM and accepts the change w/o the light staying on.

You should have been measuring voltage...

I did reset the PCM by disconnecting the battery. After I started it with PCM reset and TP enhancement done, the check engine light was on. I reset the PCM again, and the check engine light was still on.

When I tried to measure voltage, it only shows 0.00 with ignition on. Measuring resistance at 20K ohms is the only setting that will give me values from the TPS lead.

You have to have the key on, but don't start the engine. The third wire you don't probe supplies 5v to the TPS to power it.

How can 5V be supplied to the TP sensor if the electrical connector is not even connected to the sensor? What am I doing wrong?

You need to probe into the connected wires. That way the TPS gets the voltage and you get the readings.

Gently probe into the wires with teh connector on the tps.
