Default NEED gearheads tonight!! headlight switch...

what is going on here?

in the process of switching my twilight sentenial and i found this...

old and new switch...

the old switch was still working, but the rotating part was snapped off in there..

when i plug the new switch into the old connector, i can feel it getting hot right away...

the only thing i can think of is that i hardwired my radar a while ago...

it is connected to a wire in my A-pillar, that turns on with my ignition...

need to get this figured out TONIGHT before i go out..dont feel like getting a car on fire

in this pic you can see that plate on the back that my thumb is touching...that is what gets hot first...

Does your radar detector work still?

Did you have the key on or off when you plugged in the new switch?

Also, the rotator **** thing always breaks....broke on mine. Amongst other problems with the sentinal.

It'* normal for the dimmer rheostat to become warm but that'* a little above warm. that'* why there is usually aluminum fins to disapate heat.

I assume that the melted connector and the burnt switch are the originals?

It got warm after the connector and wiring on the right was removed, correct?

I'd investigate the wires that run to the burnt spots in the switch.

I had the same thing..in my pics..my connector is upside down to yours..

I saw a wire was pulled and looked a little corroded.. cut one wire at a time and replace both switch and connector..put electrical grease in connector to combat bad connections
