Starting issue on 96 SE
Can anyone help me? The other day I went to start the car, and it acted like the battery was dead, so I jumped it, and it would turn over twice, then make a clicking sound and all the gauges would jump/flicker for a fraction of a second, then nothing. It does this exact same thing every time. Is it the starter, ignition, something else? I have never seen a car act like this...
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Well, I completely bypassed the battery when I jumped it. It still turned over twice and clicked, and all the guages shuttered up and down. I wonder if it is a short of somekind, a realy or something. I wonder if it is something from the ignition to the starter...Man, this sucks! I hate having car problems when I don't know what the heck it is...

what do you mean you by passed it. Did you compelete remove and disscount it. OTherwise it could stil be the battery beacuse you battery has to put about 12v or the car willl not start. one of the cell(*) in the battery could have failed then you wouldn't get 12v.

Ok...
Your battery sounds dead and it seems that you are sure of that. If you are trying to jumpstart from another car or battery charger, it is doubtful you are getting enough power to start.
The symptoms you describe are expected on a low or dead battery. Simply not enough juice to get you running.
The best suggestion would be to pick up a new battery, and while the battery is out. Double check all your connections for both cables. The Bonneville is known for needing a lot of power for all the accessories we have in them.

I will pick up a battery and check it out then... I didn't realize the Bonnie took so much power to start... Thanks for the information. I will post after I hook up the new battery....
Thanks again!

Besides the starter
Remember clock on radio
Power for cluster
Power for computer
interior lights if door is open
If the battery is dead or bypassed...it'* tough to put enough power through a jumper cable. Jumper cables are like a small childs helping hand for a battery

Well, I bought a new battery, and it started right up... BUT, now, it sounds like there is a vacuum leak or something. It doesn't want to idle. It is running VERY rough. It was running perfect before this whole battery situation. I bought a Haynes manual and will try to troubleshoot the problems.
THANKS A LOT FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP! I sure appreciate it!

Hopefully someone else will chime in ,because I don't real know lot about the idle. Sometimes when a car lose power longer enough the computer also did i.e. the info about how the car should run will also be lost. It might take some to time for it relearn. I am not sure how long this will take. On my car when changed the battery it seems to have taken to runs of the car to get back[/code]
