OK. As preventative maintenance, I replaced the supercharger on my 92 SSEi. I started it and it seemed to be idling great. It ran for about 3 minutes when I got in the car and blipped the thottle. It immediately died. It does not want to restart but I did pull the codes. I got a code 12 (diagnostics??) and a code 58. What is this code 58?? I am seeing a VATS security fault unless I am looiking at the wrong set of codes.

Please help as my car is currently stuck at work in the install bay.

My book doesn't list code 58! Take the belt off and try to turn the pulley on the SC manually. It may have seized. If it'* new, check to see if it shipped with oil. I have a bad feeling about this one. Check those two things, and we may have some codes by tomorrow.

I checked the oil before I even pulled the other one off. It was full all the way up to the plug. The charger turns free. It is a brand new GM piece.

I don't know if this makes any difference but the new pulley is about 1/4-1/2" larger in diameter. Could it be the larger pulley is not turning the supercharger fast enough to supply enough air to the engine???

First I'm sorry about your problem. I'm not the guy to help you out but someone here will help you figure it out. Second welcome you've come to the right place for answers to those problems nobody nelse can figure out. It'* hard to beleive that Will didn't know what those codes meant!!!LOL

HEY! I resemble that remark! My crappy Chilton'* manual doesn't list 58. I'll get off my duff and order the factory service manuals. We'll get this figured out. Code 12 is just the 'handshake' code, to tell you you're talking to the PCM. Code 58 doesn't list at all. Are you sure it wasn't a 56? 56 is the boost control solonoid! Make sure it'* hooked up and working properly. That pully size is a concern also. Pull the one off the old SC and put it on the new one. You may be turning it too low at idle and starving the engine! I hope it'* that simple. Keep us posted on this one. It'* not often we get a real fun one like yours

I got the supercharger at a local salvage. He had told me about it when I bought my 93 but it just had a new one installed before I got it. However, when I got the 92, the nose was making a little rattle. I could buy this one for cheaper than just the charger nose so I got it. He has had it sitting in the car for quite some time. I called him this morning and asked him what he would take for it and he told me $200; I told him I'd be right there.

I also have a line on another Gen 1 sc if someone here needs it. It has approximately 4500 miles and they guy also would take 200 for that one. If you guys need any parts for your Bonne'*, the salvage I dealt with today shoots me very good prices as long as I pull the parts off myself.

Check those codes again, and we'll get to the bottom of this. Did you take the TB, boost solonoid, MAF, etc all as one package? If you did, I'd be really tempted to swap your old Boost Solonoid onto the new SC. Keep us updated.

Yes, I counted code 58 3 times in a row about 3 different times. When I pulled the TB, yes, I pulled it as a unit. I just removed the 2 nuts and 1 stud at the SC, removed the throttle and cruis linkage, and unplugged the electrical plugs. I put everything back as should be with new gaskets and injector O rings.

I'd really like to get to the bottom of this because I am putting headers on one of my Z28'* on Friday and will need something to drive to and from the parts store for those unknowns....

After re reading your post, I used the throttle body that was originally on the car. Boost control solenoid is a brand new GM part (one I had left over from my Typhoon....)
