Tire Falling Off
My dad was driving the 94 bonneville sse about 2 years ago and the passenger side front tire fell off. Today while i was driving to work i noticed that there was afunny noise coming from the drivers side front tire so i check the lug nuts and 3 of them were easy to take off with my hand. Is there a problem with the stock lug nuts or anythign that i cn fix this problem?
There may be a chance that somekids dont like me at school or are jealous of the bonne so... |
Do you have a mechanic do the work on your car? It could be possible that they weren't on very tight to begine with. If they weren't tighten up in a star pattern (or at least all checked for tightness in the end) One could have loosened while the others pulled the wheel in tighter.
I had to do a brake job on mine once to find out that the lugs weren't on tight enough. They were snug but not where they should be. The problem arose when I then found the lugs to be crossthreaded and slightly bent inward so the rotor wouldn't come out. Not a fun job to replace your lugs. I would check the other tires as well to see how they are doing. Better safe than sorry... |
NO i havnt had work done in a while and me and father do all the Work and tighten with air wrench so they are tight.

My impact wrench won't torque the lugs to spec. I have to put them on with the impact, then torque them with a torque wrench. You may have just found your problem.

how many ft lbs do u torque to? i do 100 just to be safe :D

Can't remember for sure without looking it up, but I think it's around 100. Somebody else might remember! (little secret here....I have it written in permanent ink on the backside of my center caps....the little ABS caps).

I called a shop today they said with aluminum rims the changes in temperature could have done it. And yes i do it to 100 pounds

Changing temps? No way. I've never heard of that if it was properly torqued to begin with. You wanna talk about extreme temperature swings on wheels, ride with me. I've never had even one come loose. Somebody is messing with you or someone didn't torque them correctly.
