Default JP Performance timing set

Hey guys, got the balance shaft taken care of and moving onto the rest of the front. I had a few questions about installing the JP Performance single roller timing set on the block. After I put the smaller cog on the crank, how does the engine turn the oil pump? The old one was longer and fit into the gears on the timing cover.

Do I just put both on and will it fit with the timing cover? Do I have to get my old one cut? Do I have to buy a new part? Or did I just mess this install up?

By the way is it supposed to be really hard to insert the bottom cog on the crank? I had to take a hammer to it and basically force it in, which I'm not sure was correct.

Here is what it looks like now:

That bottom gear is suppose to slide on. But, if I see what you did, you put the original cog back onto the crank, the upgraded one is installed correct? If so, neither one is compatible. The upgraded one is too short to reach the oil pump gear inside the timing cover. And from the looks of it, the old one will not be compatible with your new timing chain.

It'* really strange I ordered this off intense and their application list includes 97-current SSEIs. :-/

Weird. Can you get a pic of the new lower gear by itself?

I just installed a double roller set. The crank gear is a 2 part. The gear, and then the oil pump drive slides on. There should have been a chain, the cam gear, the crank gear, and the oil pump drive.

You can not have that other gear on like that. The timing cover wont fit. And yes, sometimes the gear goes on tight. I'm had to tap them in to place myself.

I suppose I should update on this. I ended up not finding the oil pump drive, so I am sure I lost it. I just took the old crankshaft gear and had it cut with their grinder at the machine shop for about $20. They did a pretty good job and it fits perfectly now. Here is an image of the oil pump drive seperated from the timing gear teeth
